The name speaks for itself: Multi-purpose lamps can be used in a variety of ways

In the world of illuminants and lamps, the names of items can be derived from various features. In the case of incandescent bulbs and fluorescent tubes, it is the external shape, in the case of energy-saving lamps, it is their special efficiency – and in the case of multi-purpose lamps, it is their versatility. We have various illuminants available for you, to which the latter definitely applies.

At least until recently, "multi-purpose lamp" has simply been another name for the most widespread design of incandescent bulb, with glass in the shape of a bulb, candle or tube. Classically, it is equipped with a screw-in socket, also referred to as an Edison or E-socket in technical circles, after the inventor Thomas Alva Edison. This threaded socket has typical sizes that are influenced by where and for what purpose the multi-purpose lamps are used, among other things.

Multi-purpose lamps for large displays and small spaces

A screw socket with the E27 format has an outer diameter of 27mm and was the standard size for a long time. In the LTT range, you will find it especially in OMNILUX coloured light bulbs, which can be used for light shows, for example, or atmospheric bar lighting. Most commonly used today, however, are multi-purpose lamps with an E14 socket – and an outer diameter of 14mm. Their popularity is partly due to the fact that they are often used to provide lighting in locations with limited space. For example, light bulbs with an E14 screw thread and a small glass bulb are used mainly as recessed lights in display cabinets and bar cabinets, as well as in refrigerators and ovens.
