The UV tube emits ultraviolet radiation, UV radiation for short, or black light. The wavelength of the UV light is less than 380 nanometres and therefore not visible to the human eye. UVA radiation serves primarily to stimulate fluorescence and is harmless to health. Specialty lamps with UVA filters generate UVA radiation, commonly referred to as 'black light'.

This black light is used especially for show effects, for example, in discos or at magic shows, to create a magical atmosphere.
